About Camryn

A champion of vocal versatility, Camryn Dewar, B. Mus is an accomplished vocalist of many genres, including contemporary classical, opera, musical theatre, and jazz. She champions the works of contemporary composers, and her repertoire includes a wealth of music by Indigenous and living composers across North America. Hailed as an “incredible performer and instrument” (Jeffrey Gall), Dewar recently sang the role of Josette LaGrande in Li Keur: Riel’s Heart of the North with Manitoba Opera and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra in their 2023 workshop. In 2024, performed in the opera Blind Injustice in Montclair, New Jersey, apprenticing with composer Scott Davenport Richards, understudying the role of Nancy Smith, and working with Tony award-winning director Ted Sperling.  Camryn will be apprenticing with Music Director Ted Sperling and performing with MasterVoices at Carnegie Hall this April in The Grapes of Wrath.

Notable recent performances include the Living Music Concert at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, where she showcased her versatility and artistry as both a performer and producer, as well as an Emerging Artist Recital titled Beneath the Azure Sky, at the Agassiz Chamber Music Festival with pianist Paul Williamson. She was also named the 2023/2024 Virtuosi Concert Young Artist, which will culminate with a full-length recital in January as part of the Roots and Branches Concert Project. Other role highlights include: Leonora in Dan Shore’s The Beautiful Bridegroom (Montclair State University Chamber Opera), Suor Dolcina in Puccini’s Suor Angelica (Bel Canto in Tuscany), Anna Gomez in Menotti’s The Consul (Opera NUOVA), Native Girl in Clements & Current’s Missing (University of Manitoba Opera), and Tisbe in Rossini’s La Cenerentola (Northern Lights Music Festival Opera)

Camryn takes great pride in her Indigenous (Red River Métis Nation) heritage. She is committed to using her artistry to uplift and amplify Indigenous voices. For her vision and drive, Camryn was awarded the Modern Métis Woman Scholarship, the Association of Opera in Canada Fellowship, and the InPath: N’we Jinan Artworks Fellowship. 

Camryn is currently studying a Master of Music (Performance) degree program at Montclair State University in New Jersey, USA, with Metropolitan Opera’s Barbara Dever. Camryn previously completed a Bachelor of Music (Vocal Performance) at the University of Manitoba under Mel Braun.
